BENEFITING: Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation
EVENT: Amherst 2016
EVENT DATE: SEPTEMBER 11, 2016

THE STORY:

The Siller Family started the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.  The goal of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to continue Stephen’s legacy by supporting our nation’s first responders and service members. Building for America’s Bravest, a proud program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, constructs specially adapted smart homes for our most catastrophically injured service members. In January 2015, the Foundation also raised over one million dollars to fully pay off the mortgages for the families of slain NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Luis Ramos.

MISSION:

The mission of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller, who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.

GoFundMe: Aiden's Army

Please keep this firefighter family in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season and if you would like to help please visit the link below!

GoFundMe: Aiden's Army

Original GoFundMe Message from Tricia Allen:

Many of you know a Lieutenant on my fire department, (East Brookfield Fire Department) Lt. Aaron Los. Last month, Aaron's wife Chrissy noticed blood in their young sons urine. Concerned, she adamantly pushed his pediatricians to do testing on Aiden. It was discovered that Aiden had a large tumor on a kidney, and was going to have it removed immediately. Two weeks ago, we got the news that Aiden (18 mos old) might have a Wilms Tumor. This is what New England Patriots’ Nate Solders son is also suffering from.

He successfully had his kidney removed, and while recovering from surgery, it was found that it was not actually Wilms, but a more rare form of cancer called “Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor “, or RMT for short. (http://www.dana-farber.org/Health-Library/Childhood-Rhabdoid-Tumor.aspx) RMT is is an EXTREMELY aggressive, rare form of kidney cancer that usually effects babies and toddlers.

Aaron is a three time combat war veteran in the US Army. He is a hard worker at his full time job, serves on our fire department, and is still an active soldier in the National Guard. He and his wife married later in life, and after many years of trying, finally conceived their only child, Aiden.  Aiden’s’ life is a miracle, and this diagnosis is devastating.

Last month, before Aiden’s symptoms appeared, they put a deposit on their first family home. They are supposed to be closing shortly, but now have other things to worry about. Our whole department has stepped up to fix up, clean, paint and move them into their new house once everything has gone through. We are all cooking for them, and supporting them in any way possible.

As of November 19th, Aiden is having his port placed for the months of chemotherapy ahead. Aaron and his wife Chrissy will be staying at the Ronald McDonald house while Aiden goes through chemotherapy and radiation.  Its going to be a long, slow process. Unfortunately, Aaron will be missing work and still need to pay for rent, a new mortgage, and all of the household bills, gas to get to and from Boston, hotels as needed, food and other daily necessities.

The East Brookfield Fire Department is committed to helping “our” family, and pray that you will find it in your heart to help as well. Monetary donations would be great, but we also understand that it can be tough during the holiday season. Prayers are also accepted!! Please share this with everyone you know. Our little guy needs all of the help he can get!

Have a wonderful holiday season! Thanks again.

Blessings,

Tricia Allen
